An Ode to the Earth
exhibition by Emeli Höcks at Noot
at Noot, food, materials, and meaning come together in Emeli Höcks’ exhibition An Ode to the Earth, a poetic tribute to the planet and the cycles that sustain life.
the exhibition grew out of Höcks’ work designing the statuettes for the Win Win sustainability award and was inspired by Domingo Peas, leader of the Achuar people in the Amazon. his philosophy that every decision should benefit seven generations ahead became a guiding compass for her creative process.
using 11 kilos of eggshells and compost from the restaurant’s food waste, Emeli has created biodegradable objects. the dark works are made of biochar and compost, a living material that can return to the earth, while the white sculptures are made from ground eggshells collected from the hotel’s breakfasts, also intended to return to the earth. in the heart of the restaurant, leftovers take on new life as sculpture, creating a living picture of the cycle where what we leave behind can nourish something new.
An Ode to the Earth invites stillness, reflection, and reconnection. it asks us to feel the earth in our hands, remember those who came before us, and rediscover our place in the whole. it is a reminder that we are not outside of nature, we are a part of it. we are all one.
vernissage: november 1, 3:00–5:00 PM at Noot.
the exhibition runs throughout November, so drop by anytime, enjoy something to eat or drink, and experience Emeli Höcks’ magical sculptures.
